Here is an alternative way to add the ‘5 sec’ intervals to the transcriptions for the audio files. The ‘TRS-spaceFile.txt’ is attached to this post.
How to use the TRS-spacer File
(1) open the sound file that you are going to transcribe in Transcriber
(2) play the sound file in Transcriber and hit the return button a few times to put in two or three boundaries
(3) save the file, this will create a .trs file for the recording
(4) quit Transcriber
(5) open the .trs file created by Transcriber for the recording you are transcribing in some sort of text editing or word processing program
(6) find the ‘endtime’ in the .trs file. This will tell you how many seconds long the recording is. Remember this number.
(7) open the TRS-spaceFile.txt file. Select and Copy the lines in this file from the top down to the line that has the number that is just below the length of the recording you are transcribing. Note that the TRS-spaceFile.txt file is in 5 second intervals.
(8) go back to the .trs file for the recording that you are transcribing. Select all of the ” and paste in the lines slected from the TRS-spaceFile.txt file. You should now have a very long list of in the .trs file. Save the file.
(9) quit the word processor that you are using
(10) open the modified .trs file in Transcriber. Transcriber will prompt you for the recording that you are transcribing, select it. You should now have boundaries at 5 second intervals up to the end of the recording. You can simply transcribe within the boundaries as usual.
