Preparation

1. recruit subject

Data Collection

1. set up machines
2. participant reads and signs consent form; describe procedure; answer questions
3. set up participant in chair
4. record on imovie (mac)
5. thank participant

Post Processing

1. save entire recording as .mov (Export) for backup purposes
2. save each presentation as a smaller .mov 
3. rip audio of smaller .mov files
4. make jpegs of smaller .mov files using ImageJ
5. transcribe audio files using transcriber (cut and past in protocol)
6. send txt file and wave to forced aligner (returns a TextGrid)
7. manually fix alignment in Praat’s TextGrid
8. run Praat script to grab target information including times
9. use Edgetrak to grab the tongue shapes at the same times as the head and tails of the vowels
10. use NORM to plot the vowels (target and reference vowels) in Bark normalized vowel space
11. use R to analyze the variance between tongue shapes at head and tail for each vowel

At the end you should have a vowel space plot and a tongue shape plot for each participant.
